Municipal Court

The City of Liberal Municipal Court is a limited jurisdiction court that hears cases involving alleged traffic infractions, misdemeanor traffic and criminal violations and violations of the Liberal City Code. The judge conducts the trials under the Code for Municipal Courts and, if applicable, the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Kansas Rules of Evidence and the Liberal City Code. The purpose of the court is to provide a fair and efficient adjudication of alleged violations.

First Appearance and Review Dockets:

  • Monday at 1:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.

Trial, Pretrial, Revocation, Sentencing, any other Contested Matters will occur on Thursday Dockets.

 An amendment is available for traffic infraction citations only. An application for amendment is available upon request. This is an option if you are interested in keeping the infraction off of your driving record. If an amendment is approved by the city prosecutor, the infraction will be amended to careless driving and the fine amount will be doubled if paid in full on or before the due date. The charge will not be reported to the state. Please contact the court if you have any further questions.
